I Love Luxor Private Tours! No Regrets! I am so happy that I chose Luxor Private Tours to trust with our tour of Luxor. I had made the reservation six months prior to our expected arrival date, well before the war on Israel. My group was a little nervous about taking tours and I contemplated cancelling however since Virgin Voyages Resilient Lady sailing continued their scheduled stop in Safaga Port, we kept our planned excursion with Luxor Private Tours. Please be advised, the Safaga Port is totally commercial/industrial. High security, no one can just walk in there; No shopping, no stores, no vendors. If you plan to get off the ship, I would suggest everyone take a tour. The nearest sight is three hours plus drive away from Safaga Port. There were no public buses or taxis. Prepare your excursion in advance. When you take a tour with Luxor Private tours, you will be required to provide them with a copy of your passport. If you do not, you will have an extremely long walk to the outside of the port (to meet the driver) because they will not be allowed inside the port without proof they are picking you up. You will return at the darkness of night and trust me, you don’t want to take that walk to the ship from outside the port entrance. After you book in Trip Advisor, the owner of the company, Ash, as he let me call him, will reach out to you via WhatsApp. He will keep in you touch with you answering any questions or concerns you might have up to the tour. There were six of us on this tour , all of us senior citizens, I might add. We were greeted inside the port by a man holding a sign with my name on it. We had a dedicated driver and he had an assistant. The van was new, clean, air conditioned and had USB ports in the back seats. Water was provided also. There was plenty of space for the six of us. The driver did not speak fluent English but we were able to communicate if needed; mainly to get a bathroom break. When we stopped, we got snacks and drinks. Also, the US dollar is widely accepted or you can use your credit card, not debit card. I did go to a “bank” ATM and got some Egyptian pounds when I was in Cairo. The exchange rate was about 30EGP per 1USD. When we arrived to the city of Luxor, the assistant driver was changed out for our English fluent tour guide Mohammed. I requested him after reading the reviews online and he did not disappoint. Mohammed was absolutely fabulous. His knowledge of all things Egypt was incredible. He did tell us he taught the subject and had a degree in Egyptology. We had three ships excursions all rolled up into one with Luxor Private Tours. Our first stop was the Valley of the Kings. A totally amazing place. Wear your comfortable walking shoes. Bring a sun visor and water bottle. Then off to the Alabaster factory where we watched men use primitive ancient techniques to cut and polish alabaster. Yes, you can buy machine made items there too. The highlight of my visit to the Alabaster factory was a man asking my husband how many camels he would accept for me. That was funny. Next, Hatshepsut Temple, Temple of Amenhotsep, a delicious lunch on a Falucca on the Nile River, then last but not least, The Temple of Karnak. That place is magnificent in its size, scale, and mystery. How in this world did they build that place? Give yourselves four hours or more to get back to your ship. We left Luxor at five pm, made quick bathroom break and arrived to the port at nine pm. Also: We had taken an overnight tour with Luxor Private Tours a few days earlier in Cairo and Alexandria. It was equally safe and enjoyable. Should you want the Egyptian Cartouche as a souvenir, order it from Ash in advance. Thank you Ash and Luxor Private Tours.
